7 Simple Tips for Creating Beautiful Birth Announcement Cards

Picture this: it’s 2 a.m. and you’re up for another feeding with your new little love.

You’re in the nursery, rocking with Baby in the soft glow of the bedside lamp, while searching on your phone for a picture to use in their birth announcement. You’ve taken a million, but some are blurry, some have people in the background, some are too dark or Baby is washed out. You just need one good photo so you can order announcements before your newborn is sitting up!

Don’t do this to yourself.

Set some wheels in motion now, so you can spend more time snuggling your baby after their arrival. You’ll be able to relax, knowing you’ve got a plan for Baby’s birth announcement that will make your life easier and guarantee a gorgeous card to show off to family and friends.

Here’s what I suggest:

  1. Interview and hire a newborn photographer several months before Baby’s due date. Don’t wait because photographers often book weeks out. Look for an experienced person who is knowledgeable, friendly and sets you and your partner at ease. When you’re comfortable during your newborn shoot, it will come across in your photos and they’ll have a natural, easy feel to them.

  1. Address envelopes and buy stamps now, so all you have to do is pop Baby’s announcements in and drop them in the mail. Look for LOVE stamps at the post office or ask for Chinese New Year stamps in Baby’s birth year for an extra-special touch.

  1. Consider using an online print shop like Minted. I always recommend them because they have a ton of beautiful newborn designs (all by independent artists!), and they make creating and sending your own announcements easy-peasy. You can even pay a little extra to have them address and mail your announcements for you!

  1. Minted offers ten different announcement styles, including minimalist, modern, funny, and whimsical, and you can opt for a card with a single picture, or create a collage of photos. Choose a design that isn’t too busy, so the focus will be on your sweet baby’s picture(s), and make sure whatever announcement you choose complements the look and feel of your newborn’s photo session.

  1. Once your photographer sends your baby’s gallery, choose a few favorites right away and upload them to Minted’s site. From there, it’s a snap to see how they look in the cards you’ve pre-selected and choose the one you love best!

  1. Add Baby’s stats and your personalized message. Minted has an easy-to-use online editor that lets you add your own text in the font and layout you like most. You can also choose the color and texture of the paper!

  1. Don’t forget your discount! Use my code PHOTOPROELIZABETHHITE, and get 15% off your birth announcement and all photo items. I love my partnership with Minted! They are seriously the best!

Preparing for a new baby is exciting, and it can feel overwhelming with everything that needs to get done. With just a little pre-planning, you can check birth announcements off your to-do list with a minimum of effort, knowing you’ll have beautiful cards to wow your family and friends.

I hope you’ll give Minted a try. With all they offer, getting your announcements in order will be a snap!

Now if only they could send someone over to help during those sleepless nights!
