How the Natural Light in Your Home Affects your Newborn Pictures

Natural Light Newborn Pictures

As a Portland natural light newborn photographer, I utilize the natural light of your home to document all the magical and simple moments with you and your newest family member. The goal of this blog post is to show you what your newborn pictures will look like depending on the light available in your home.

When I first arrive, I ask you to turn off all artificial lights and I walk through your house and I create a game plan for your session. We all know that here in the Pacific Northwest, some days can be dark and grey. This does not limit me or stop me from taking beautiful photos of your newborn at home. I will position you in ways to have the most flattering and stunning light reflect over you and your baby. Here are some examples of how light in your home can enhance the overall look of your final gallery of images.

If your home has a general "light and airy" aesthetic, we will have more space to work with during your session. Your newborn pictures may look something like this:

When your home has less natural light, my approach to newborn photography is to use smaller spaces and pose you right by the windows. These images are still bright and consistent with my style but have more darks and contrast to them.

As you can see, the light in your home creates a slightly different look. I really enjoy the challenge of creatively working with any natural light I find. I love both styles and enjoy documenting sweet, snuggly, and adorable baby and family photos in all types of home settings.

Do you have a little one on the way? I would love to chat with you about taking your Portland, Oregon newborn pictures!
