If you live in Oregon, it almost feels like a rite of passage—your first trip to Sunriver with kids. And after going ourselves with a baby and a 4-year-old, I finally get the hype.
It’s easy, it’s beautiful, and somehow it manages to feel both relaxing and full of things to do at the same time.

1. Bike Riding (This Is THE Thing to Do)
Sunriver has over 30 miles of paved bike paths, and they’re flat, scenic, and super safe. This is one of those places where biking isn’t just an activity—it’s how you get around.
You can rent bikes for the whole family, including trailers and tag-alongs for younger kids. Ride to parks, cruise to the village, or just wander without a plan. Even toddlers can join in, either riding on their own or getting pulled along, which makes it feel easy instead of stressful.
2. Swimming at SHARC (The Pool Is a Must)
The Sharc Aquatic Center (SHARC) is basically a mini water park.

5.S’mores at the Lodge
This one is simple, but it ended up being one of the most memorable parts of our trip.
At night, families gather around the fire pits at the main lodge, and it naturally turns into this cozy little tradition. No planning, no pressure—just showing up, making s’mores, and letting the kids wind down. Our kids loved it, and honestly, it felt like one of those small moments you remember more than the big activities.

Resort Condo vs Vacation Home Rental: What’s Better for Families?
This is one of the biggest decisions you’ll make.
On our most recent trip to Sunriver, we stayed in a one-bedroom condo at the resort, but before that we had done a few trips where we stayed in vacation homes with friends and family.

Are There Family-Friendly Vacation Rentals at Sunriver Resort?
Yes…tons. You’ll find everything from condos right in the resort to standalone homes tucked throughout Sunriver, plus larger luxury homes with extras like hot tubs and game rooms. It really just comes down to what matters most for your family. If you want convenience and easy access to pools and restaurants, a resort condo is hard to beat. If you’re looking for more space to spread out, a private home might be the better fit. And of course, budget plays a role too, since prices can vary quite a bit depending on size and location.
This is one of the vacation homes we stayed at in the Caldera Springs neighborhood of Sunriver. Caldera Springs definitely felt a bit more upscale and modern, which we loved, but the trade-off was being farther from the main Sunriver area. We actually stayed here when my youngest was only 7 weeks old, so having the extra space for naps was a huge plus. The setting really made it special, we were right on the river (my husband even did a freezing cold polar plunge), and having our own private hot tub and yard for the kids to play in was a big win. It did mean driving into the main village for restaurants, but honestly, it was worth it for a few meals out.

If you have younger kids, I’d lean toward staying in the resort.
Less walking, less planning, fewer logistics.

A Real Family Experience (With a Baby + 4-Year-Old AND two dogs)
