The Importance of Photographing Motherhood

Mother Daughter Milestone Photo by Portland Oregon Family Photographer

Get in front of the camera, mama!

Motherhood is full of photo-worthy adorable moments of your children. It’s SO easy to whip out your camera phone and capture sweet little moments of your little ones! But years from now, you may look back and notice you were not in any of the photos! Your children will want to see photos of their childhood with you in them, yes YOU!

I challenge all you mamas to get in front of the lens more often. I challenge you to document not just the kiddos, but your relationship with them- THE LOVE, THE SNUGGLES, THE SLEEPY FACES, THE ESKIMO KISSES! I promise you that the first thing you notice when you look back on these moments will not be the messy hair or the bags under your eyes. The first thing you notice will be the memory of the love that you felt at that exact moment.

It was such an honor to help a mother do just that in this Boulder, Colorado travel session. Kylie is a professional family photographer who is always behind the lens taking photos, so it was great to get her out in front of the camera to document her relationship with her daughters. Photographing another photographer is both terrifying and exciting. I was honored that Kylie trusted me to document these memories for her and her daughters!

This travel session took place at Chautauqua Park where we had an amazing backdrop of Colorado’s Flatiron Mountains.  As an Oregon family photographer who loves adventure, I immediately fell in love with this location!
